MOPS International

MOPS stands for "mothers of preschoolers" - but don't let that confuse you! MOPS is about meeting the needs of moms - urban, suburban, rural, stay-at-home, working, teen, adoptive, special-needs, single and married moms and is for every mom, from conception through kindergarten.  The MOPS group meets one Friday of each month.

AWANA

Awana provides weekly programs and special events that introduce children to Jesus Christ and build a biblical foundation for faith. A national survey found long-term Awana participation to be as important as all other church activities combined. Nearly 93 percent of our alumni who took part in Awana for six or more years still attend church as adults.  AWANA meets every Sunday night at 5:30pm during the school year.

Welcome Desk

Greet people coming in and out for worship services on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Special focus on visually identifying guests who have not visited before and give them a warm welcome. Offer the guest brochure, church bulletin and encourage them to fill out the visitor card. Escort guests to classrooms and/or worship services, if needed. Point out the locations of restrooms and drinking fountains. Answer any questions and provide other assistance as needed.

Shuttle Bus

GCC is starting a shuttle bus ministry to provide transportation from people’s homes to GCC on Sunday mornings so they can participate in worship. The shuttle bus is also used for other ministry activities. Drivers need to have a current driver’s license, must watch a safety video and must be approved by the church’s insurance company on an annual basis.

Volunteer positions: Drivers may choose to serve on a rotational basis on Sunday mornings, or special events or both. Sunday shuttle drivers will serve about once per quarter.

Volunteers are also welcome to ride the shuttle bus route on Sunday mornings to greet shuttle riders and provide assistance as needed.

As GCC receives visitor cards, we follow-up with a home visit to thank them for coming and answer any questions they may have.

Volunteer positions: Volunteers interested in following up with new visitors. We make visits once a week, generally Tuesdays, 6-7:30pm. Can be on a rotational basis.

Share information about Grace Community Church with people desiring to learn more about GCC or to join our church. Information includes specifics about our beliefs as well as church membership requirements.

Volunteer positions: lunch planning, table setup and minimal cleanup approximately once every two months. Volunteers are also needed every two months to provide clerical help such as copying, folding and stapling packets.

Fellowship for Eight

Come and share in a meal and fellowship to get to know one another even better! Great for introducing new members to existing members.

Volunteer positions: Fellowship for Eight Coordinator and participants. Generally, a group of three couples rotate hosting a meal in their homes, and invite one extra couple for a total of eight. Over the three evenings, this group gets to know each other better, and gets to know three new couples they may not know.

Equipping

Connect every member of the body of Christ in meaningful service according to their God-given design that will move them toward spiritual maturity.

Based on Ephesians 4, equip the people of GCC for serving, so that the body of Christ may be built up. Help people identify and/or affirm their gifts and abilities, and make them aware of the many opportunities where their gifts can be used to faithfully serve in meaningful ministries that glorify God.

Women’s Bible Study

Strengthen our Bible knowledge and its application to women’s everyday life. Studies are often based on published DVD and workbook studies by respected Christian women such as Beth Moore and Pricilla Shirer. Sunday evenings 5:45 - 7p.m. or Wednesday mornings 9:30 - 11:00a.m. Childcare available Wed. mornings for a nominal fee.

Volunteer positions: The Women’s Bible Study coordinator chooses the next study material, sets the schedule, procures materials, sets-up DVD and discussion groups, collects fees and arranges childcare worker(s). Discussion leaders/facilitators.

Men getting together to encourage each other and hold each other accountable. This ministry is called Fight Club, emphasizing the responsibilities of manhood; men stepping up and fighting temptations and distractions of this life and focusing on God’s biblical design for them and their families. Delivered Meals of Encouragement

Make and deliver meals to families to encourage and support them during times of joy in the birth of a child or times of illness, surgery or special need.

Volunteer positions: Coordinator who alerts volunteers of the needs as they arrive and manages the schedule and volunteers who prepare meals in their home kitchens and deliver the meals to the family.

Kitchen – Wednesday Evening Meals

Kitchen – Holiday and Special Event Meals

To encourage families’ attendance and fellowship before Wednesday evening activities. By providing meals at GCC during the school year, this ministry frees up time to learn more about God in Bible Study and Graceland.

Volunteer positions: Menu and shopping list coordinator, grocery shoppers – monthly for most items; weekly for small items. On a rotation basis, volunteers are needed to cook, set-up/clean tables and chairs, cashier and do after-meal kitchen clean-up. Volunteers are also needed to prepare desserts made in your home kitchen (GCC provides ingredients).

To join together in fellowship over a meal, and celebrate holidays, baptisms and special events.

Volunteer positions: In addition to the kitchen volunteer positions mentioned above, extra volunteers are needed for these generally larger events such as 2 picnics a year, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

SWERVE Meal Concession Stand

The second Wednesday of every month, in place of the regular GCC meal, a Concession Stand venue requires minimal prep and minimal cleaning. (e.g. hot dogs, chips, drinks)

Volunteer positions: Volunteers needed to do a little set-up, cooking, cashier or cleaning. Can be on a rotational basis.

Occasionally, families attending GCC need support in times of grief after a funeral service of a loved one.

Volunteer positions: Meal coordinator and volunteers to prepare a dish and deliver to GCC. Also volunteers to set-up chairs, tables and buffet, make drinks and clean-up. Can be relatively short notice.

A special prayer team at GCC focused on spreading God’s Word on the global mission field as well as other local prayer needs.

Secret Saints Prayer and Encouragement

The purpose of Secret Saints is to promote prayer for one another, encouragement for one another and love for one another. It is a one-year commitment to pray for and encourage an assigned GCC woman. During the year, you also remember your Secret Saint monthly and on birthdays, anniversaries and holidays by sending them a note and/or small gift. Everything is done in secret and at the end of the year at a group fellowship, Secret Saints are revealed.

Volunteer positions: Commitment to pray for and encourage one specific person for one year and encourage them with periodic notes and/or small gifts.

Music – Worship Services

Psalm 33:3 says “Sing to the Lord a new song, play skillfully and shout for joy.” Worship team members lead the congregation in worship to the Lord through music and songs. Worship team members must be teachable, skilled musically and committed to developing and improving their gift through regular rehearsal and individual practice. Worship team members must be unified, committed, and lead worshippers of the GCC family.

Christian Family Day

One July Saturday per year, northland evangelical Christians gather together in the historic downtown shopping district of Smithville, MO for a day of Christian music, family activities, food and fellowship.

Volunteer positions: There are many, many ways to get involved before, during and after Christian Family Day, including preparation, scheduling, promotion, set-up, creating the GCC booth, serving during the event, clean-up, etc.

Nehemiah Fest

Three days in September at the Smith Fork Park at Smithville Lake, various bands and Christians from across the country gather to worship, encourage, and spread the gospel through music, camping and fellowship.

Volunteer positions: There are many, many ways to get involved before, during and after Nehemiah Fest, including preparation, scheduling, promotion, set-up, serving during the event, transportation, GCC booth, clean-up, etc.

Provide A/V audio expertise to support the Sunday worship service and special events.

Provide A/V visual expertise to support the Sunday worship service and special events.

Coordinator manages the rotation schedule of volunteers and performs file maintenance.

Assemblers create the PowerPoint slides with input from the music leader and pastors. Flexibility to do this work from home.

Operators volunteer on a rotational basis and run the PowerPoint (or similar software) early on Sunday morning (8am-9:15) to practice with the band and during Sunday morning worship 10:15am-noon.

Help the teens of GCC know God, own their faith, and make God known by helping shepherd them in a pivotal time in their lives.

Graceland

Every Wednesday from 6:00-7:30pm, children ages 2 through 6th grade experience the wonders of God’s grace and receive lessons on how to show grace to others.

Adventure Week

Help kids from ages 2 through 6th grade to learn about God’s plan for their lives in our summer week long program for kids.

MOPS

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a ministry for mothers of children from birth through kindergarten. It’s an open, accepting place for moms to experience authentic community, mothering support, personal growth and spiritual hope. There are two groups that meet monthly, one in the morning and one in the evening.

Volunteer Positions: Opportunities for moms that are members to serve on Steering Teams to plan and facilitate meetings. Steering Team includes:

Coordinator, Finance, Hospitality, Discussion Group Leaders, Creative Activities, MOPPETS, Publicity, Mentor & Service.

Volunteers needed for MOPPETS program (childcare); once a month, Sept – May. This can be a monthly commitment or on a rotational basis. Lesson and/or activities are prepared for volunteers.

MOMSnext

MOMSnext is a ministry for mothers of school-age children. It’s an open, accepting place to experience authentic community, personal growth, practical help and spiritual hope. The group generally meets once a month in the evening.

Provide opportunities for young parents to grow in their relationship with God knowing their children are being loved and cared for by volunteers who are serving God by serving their family. Provide childcare during Sunday morning worship services. Ages cared for range from babies in the nursery to 5 years old. Age-appropriate mini-lessons are taught for some.

Operation Christmas Child

Be a part of the Samaritan’s Purse ministry by providing shoeboxes of small gifts, supplies and the message of Jesus to children around the world.

Volunteer positions: Shoppers for bargains throughout the year. During Adventure Week in August, help by collecting, sorting and counting items for the shoeboxes. In November, prepare and participate in a shoebox packing party at GCC.

SWERVE

SWERVE is a church-wide, outreach focused, evening to show the love of Christ in our community. Every second Wednesday of the month.

Volunteer positions: SWERVE coordinator, assistants. Volunteers are needed the second Wednesday of the month for a variety of service projects in the community. A chance for everyone to serve.

Benevolence

Meet with people from our community who request assistance from the church to help them with financial, spiritual, and emotional needs.

Volunteer positions: Benevolence team - advisory, financial counseling and follow-up.

Summer Hoops Camp and League

Christ-centered program that teaches the fundamentals of basketball and shares the gospel through devotion. Coed program for 3rd through 8th graders. Includes a 2-day camp and open gym/league play all day each Wednesday during the summer.

Easter Eggstravaganza

Good Friday outreach event to the local community that shows them what Easter is really about. Includes an Easter egg hunt, sharing the gospel and a breakfast-for-dinner meal.

Trunk or Treat

An outreach event offering an alternative way to have fun on Halloween in a safe environment. Held in the GCC parking lot, people decorate their vehicle trunks and share treats with children of community.

GCC Preschool

GCC Christian Preschool teaches preschool-age children valuable life skills in a Christ-centered environment to prepare them for Kindergarten and beyond.

Volunteer positions: Help with drop-off times (8:30a.m. or 12:15p.m.) and stay for 30-45 minutes to read with the preschoolers (any day of the week). Be a special visitor associated with the “letter of the week”…for example, Dan Allen demonstrated his violin for the letter “V” week.

Show God’s love for children and their families by sharing gifts, Bibles and the message of Jesus with parent(s) who need a little help at Christmas time.

Volunteer positions: Ministry coordinator. Shoppers that bargain hunt for gifts throughout the year. In October, we need volunteers to cut out and sew Christmas stockings. In early December, several hands and feet are needed for a 3-4 day period to set-up and run the Toy Store, including sorters, registration, shoppers, wrappers, exit helpers, someone to prepare coffee and cookies, and post-clean up and storage.

There are various areas and items in the facility that need specialized cleaning on a regular or periodic basis.

Volunteer positions: Special Cleaning Team. Opportunities include cleaning chairs, tables, pre-school children toys, walls, floors, baseboards, windows, and kitchen. Weekday and weekend times available.

Facilities Team-Electrical/Lighting

Working with other individuals on a rotating basis, you could check the lights in the church and make repairs as needed. This includes: changing various types of light bulbs and fluorescent ballasts. All the necessary tools will be provided by the church.

Facilities Team-Preventative Maintenance

Following a schedule you would check various areas of the building and equipment making minor repairs or adjustments as needed. This would include plumbing, electrical, vehicle oil changes and general maintenance, lawn care equipment, changing HVAC filters, etc.
